PageOne, the UK’s leading provider of mobile messaging solutions to the public and enterprise sectors, is launching the UK’s first ever two-way paging service at today’s Global Paging Convention taking place in Montreal, Canada.

The Global Paging Conference makes a significant contribution to the success of the global paging industry. The event will see carriers, manufacturers, suppliers, and resellers from all over the world join together for two days to display their products and services and learn from educational sessions and one another.

PageOne is confident that the benefits of paging – its reliability, true broadcast capability and robust simplicity – combined with two-way response functionality, will greatly appeal to both public and private sector organisations. Chris Jones commented, ”The launch of the first two-way paging service in the UK today is proof of our continuous commitment to the paging market and mission critical communications. With this new development, we continue to innovate and improve our paging services.”

By offering the response element to paging, PageOne ‘closes the loop’ on traditional broadcast messaging providing the Control Centre the facility to determine the availability and location of staff and device. With this greater intelligence, controllers can make rapid, informed decisions on the mobilisation and coordination of resources.

PageOne’s two-way pager not only provides delivery receipts, but also confirms that the message has been ‘read’, and ‘acted upon’, providing guaranteed end-to-end messaging for the first time. The same two-way ‘intelligence’ has also been applied to paging broadcasts, where all the individual members of the broadcast are able to respond in the same way.

PageOne’s two-way pagers also include a GPS (Global Positioning System) receiver as standard, providing recent location information on every reply message, allowing improved auditing of crisis incidents and better management of resources.

PageOne, the UK’s leading messaging technology company, has launched ‘pulse’, a priority paging channel specifically dedicated to blue-light organisations. This new paging channel offers automatic and sophisticated priority routing and dynamic bandwidth controls to ensure emergency messaging traffic is maintained without disruption, during periods of exceptional load and crisis.

The dedicated emergency channel is freely available only to PageOne’s paging customers who operate blue-light emergency applications. PageOne will issue new access codes to approved customers to access the ‘pulse’ Emergency Channel Service and immediately start benefiting from prioritised messaging. ‘pulse’ operates on all of PageOne’s radio paging frequencies, and messages can be generated using either PageOne’s ‘Connect’ or ‘flare’ applications or the emergency services own command and control systems.

“Since 7/7 PageOne has worked even closer with hospitals, councils, local and central government to continually improve communications for blue-light
applications”, said Chris Jones, CEO, PageOne. “We are positive that the blue-lights will wholeheartedly embrace ‘pulse’. It adds an extra peace of mind to an already resilient paging network negating any likelihood of public/consumer overload in emergency situations. It also demonstrates our commitment to investment and innovation in ensuring paging remains at the forefront of critical communications for the public sector”.

The need for ‘pulse’ emerged after the London 7/7 bombings in which the review by the London Regional Resilience Report identified that organisations must not rely on mobile phones for critical functions in a crisis, and a need for dedicated communications that will work without fail in an emergency.

Britain’s biggest earthquake in 25 years highlights that Paging is no white elephant in the communications mix.

At a time when rapid emergency response is absolutely vital, Britain’s biggest earthquake in 25 years has only re-emphasised that despite the digital revolution, there is a need for robust, resilient and effective methods of communication – paging.

Flooded with calls, police and ambulances across the country were called out and directed via a paging network to damaged homes and tremor-related incidents. The British Red Cross volunteers were instantly alerted and called out via paging technology to provide practical and emotional support to distressed citizens with damaged homes and cars.

Prompt and well planned emergency response, from the government and public sector is integral to any kind of disaster relief. Methods of communicating and coercing aid need to be dependable, and often the more glamorous modern day technology will not live up to it. Landlines can go down, mobile signal can be limited and networks can be overloaded. This does not happen with paging.

Paging has yet again proved itself to be a powerful, invaluable and extremely robust service when notifying rescue teams or organising mass evacuation. There is no doubt that paging systems have saved lives. For resilient, reliable infrastructure in a crisis, there really is only one vehicle you can rely on – paging.
